TechnicalMagi - Protean Application

Post by technicalmagi »

Discord name: Fel#3285

Byond ckey: TechnicalMagi / Fludd12 (Generally the former.)

Race you are applying for: Protean

Name and Backstory/Description omitted due to my tendency to workshop characters as I create them. Can provide upon request if absolutely necessary.

Summarize the species. As evidence that you've looked into it:

Code: Select all

An extremely advanced cybernetic, or occasionally positronic, brain, supported by a cloud of nanomachines
used to make a body. The nanomachines can be reconfigured at will to assume different shapes, or allowed to
collapse entirely to achieve a more mobile form. They can heal by consuming steel, or gain other effects with
some other materials.

Due to NIFs existing on NT stations, I will assume that NT has the technology to make them, at an exorbitant
and probably impossible cost. Otherwise, they apparently come from races higher on the tech scale.
In the case of applying for Mime/Clown, what are you intending to do to make them distinct and enjoyable: I do not play the clown role, though I may occasionally play mime - for the most part, I intend to make whatever character I create with this species monochrome grey or white, due to the nanomachine nature.

What do you expect to happen if you use this race/job to violate any of the server rules?: Obviously I don't expect this to happen, but I assume that the punishment will fit the violation; I have no objection to the race being revoked in the event the violation is strong enough or brought on as a result of the race.

Your summation is lovely, your expectations of punishment are humble and show understanding of our rules; only two issues come to mind: You must be a relatively new player because I don't recognize your Ckey nor your Discord ID. Which isn't inherently a bad thing, just means that if I were to approve this application, I'd expect you to prove putting my trust in you was the right call. Secondly, we do need a backstory, a collegiate length paragraph about the character should suffice (five to six sentences minimum).

-1 for now, but, give me a bit of backstory to work with and I'll gladly change this to a +1.

Hi, then! Happy to meet you! I was very active on citadel main about two or three years ago, playing a character named Naomi Reids, up until head-admin-and-relationship-partner Cebutris left and I got rather busy. More recently, I've been playing a number of characters on citadel RP now that I have a bit more time on my hands; namely two or three Prometheans, the latest and most notable of which being Ruby Cardinal.

As for a bit of backstory, I suppose I can try for something. Again, sorry if this is... completely non-indicative of what the character actually turns out to be. Like I said, I tend to constantly workshop a character's personality as I create them in-game, and it tends to deviate from my original intention a fair bit usually. Ah, also, I hope you don't mind if I tell it as something close to a narrative.

"Tell me about yourself."

The greyscale... human? Humanoid, at least, looked up from her drink - a cold, clear drink mixed with a grey spice of some sort. To my surprise, just getting close to the cup gets me a bit nauseated; the smell tips it off as Euphoria; unnecessarily fancy, expensive, and alcoholic in equal measures. Though, there's something a bit off. The spice smells a bit metallic and talc-y. She must be as confident in liver as she is in her wallet, despite her plain clothes.

"Me, darling? Oh, I'm nothing too fantastic, really. I was a big part of that transorganic movement a while back, had a few modifications done..."

I interject, noting her very human appearance, if not for the fact that it was almost as if she had been forcibly drained of color.

"Nothing overt? I remember the movement being very... loud, about its beliefs."

I remember that movement better than I let on. It was like replacing your body with metal was a fashion trend rather than a medical treatment. I suppose technology tends to normalize things. Of course, I'm certainly not one to talk, with my trimmed and stamped metal arm showing off my participation as well.

"At first, I loved the aesthetic - I practically pioneered industrialist chic - but I wanted something a bit more... personal."

"I remember that being the biggest trend on Mars, actually. There was this one manufacturer... Hadaly Mechatronics, I think? Made a fortune off the style, selling biomechanics and synthetic bodies."

I pause for a moment, noticing the pale woman's expression. She continued to smile elegantly, though clearly was slightly tiring of this line of discussion. Her eyes with their outlined, white irises fall a little, her disinterest making itself known even if she hadn't intended it. I switch gears, so to pun, hoping not to bore her - she's quite pretty, and it's been a long time since I could talk with someone about my line of work.

"Ah- it's where I got my arm, is all. You said you wanted something more personal?"

She smiles at me, twirling a lock of white hair in a similarly white finger, giving a wink that made my heart either flutter or skip, and I can't tell which.

"You don't have to defend your interests from me, darling. I just tend to talk about Hadaly at work fairly often, and it gets tiring hearing it day and night."

She pauses, pressing closer a bit, her grey eyes peering into me. Grey...? I thought-

"But, yes, by personal... Do you know much about Nanotech research as of late?"

"Only that it's bleeding-edge and cripplingly expensive. NT has those NIF blocks, but I've heard even they're practically prohibitively expensive, and fairly buggy, too. Not something many want in their head."
Somewhere, a catboy gets shoved onto a table.
She looks up at me, giving a knowing, teasing smile. Did I fail some sort of test? I feel my cheeks go a bit red, my eyes darting away from her face, contemplating the frills on her shirt.

"Am I wrong...?"

"Not at all. I was looking into using nanotechnology to build a body... from scratch. Reconfigurable on the fly, anything I wanted it to be, to fit any fashion I felt at the time"

I giggle, the idea sounding like plain science fiction.

"A transorganic wet dream, though it sounds a bit out of my price range."

She smiles, leaning forwards and giving me a kiss on the head. The conversation distracted me, and she'd finished her drink, with nothing but a few iron filings sitting at the bottom of the glass. I blush, looking away - she really is beautiful, and the drinking and girl-talk at the sorority had no way of preparing me for this.

"Yeah, the kinda thing only some kind of trendy martian manufacturer would be able to afford."

I hear her leaving, but I'm too embarrassed after the kiss and making a fool of myself to follow. After a few minutes, I turn back towards my drink, taking a wistful sip before spotting a cardstock rectangle on the seat next to me.

And, written below in some kind of strange, greyscale ink,

"Let's talk more later. I think you might like the selection of drinks I have at home."

I scramble for my communicator.
Hope this helps in the decision!

+1 they're usually a good RPer and I think they can be trusted with this.

Basically assuaged my fears and went above and beyond.

You can bet your butt (Gotta stay professional on forums, right?) I'm gonna give this a plus one.

+1
