BYOND ckey: Brokenpaw
Character name: Gavin J Bishop
Discord username (+user id): Brokenpaw#5024
Reason for application: Someone suggested I apply for admin, I opted for moderator instead. I am still relatively new to SS13 and Byond as a whole, I have only been playing since earlier this year in the spring. I feel like this is a suitable way for me to give back to the community somehow, so here I am. Please PM me on discord if you require elaboration on anything in regards to this application or otherwise.
Please answer the following questions to the best of your abilities:
1.) How would you engage with two players having an out of character altercation?
- My first suggestion would be for them to take it to PMs or some place else that’s not disruptive and disturbing other people. Think of it as I dunno, having a loud an obnoxious argument in a crowded restaurant or church, nobody wants to hear or be involved in your bickering. Don’t subject other’s to it. The important thing is to be calm and not fuel the flames when both people are heated, that’s liable to make things worse. If it gets really bad and they refuse to stop, at that point they should both probably uh, have a little quiet time (5 minute mutes or something I dunno) till they cool off.
2.) What should an admin do if they’re involved in a situation that needs admin intervention?
- They should follow proper protocol and escalation accordingly given the situation. If they are directly involved and it would be very poor form for them to address the situation themselves, they should seek out a headmin or another admin or two to monitor the situation and await further instructions. If the situation isn’t resolved or worked out before that anyway though, this is at the end of the day, a game. Lets just try to have fun, and work out grievances without making y’know, a mountain out of a mole-hill sorta thing.
3.) How should an admin determine in what way to punish someone who breaks the rules?
-I am not entirely sure how people determine this but I have a few ideas. Firstly, examine their notes and the situation at hand. Were they actively trying to be a huge ass, then probably be a bit more stern with their punishment. If it’s an engineer’s first time setting up the SM engine and they accidentally blow it, but gave it their best to try and save the engine and round well, don’t smack them to be honest. Just try to educate and help the person along, show them where they fucked up and give them a chance to fix their behavior. Next, if in doubt ask a headmin or other admins with more experience. Use your best judgment when it comes to whatever situation has cropped up and someone needs an attitude adjustment. Then again, if the person is an obvious troll or shitter, show them little mercy for trying to ruin the round or someone’s day.
At the end of the day, everyone is human and we all make mistakes. I feel it is best to ere on the side of forgiveness and give people chances to redeem themselves, given enough time or whatever floats your boat. Most importantly, I strongly oppose perma-banning people unless they break very serious rules or are say, a raider from another server here to be a dingus. Those should be reserved for the worst-types of people, not slapped on easily to people you have a grievance with.
4.) Under what circumstance should an admin de-admin themselves while playing?
-I would assume if they are playing a game and don’t want to accidentally expose themselves to meta-knowledge they should do that before round start, even before the vote. Though, if you are a good player and capable of separating the two, do whatever. You are still responsible for what’s going on and are to police rule-breaking. Everyone needs breaks though, so its understandable if you wanna de-admin yourself to play and chill, but you should get someone to relieve you of your post first.
5.) What is expected of an admin on Citadel?
-To uphold the rules of the server, protect the public interest and merrymaking, keep the game interesting and fun for everyone, bring new and exciting ideas to the table and improvements to the game overall, coach new players and new staff members on game mechanics/tools, and have a good time themselves.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I appreciate any support should anyone decide to speak in favor of me.

I love this guy, although he's been playing Main more then RP, recently! if i had a say in it. I'd give him my +1.
His responses are clear and concise, and i don't believe he's ever been a problematic player. Really chill and respectable dude overall.
Please come back.

Okay, Brokenpaw? Guess what? You are pretty darn rad. I would hope you to easily be one of the staff members. Good attitude in discord and OOC. Don't think you once did anything to cause any of the slightest bit of stir. Glad to see you applying for the moderator!
